Salt Flats Scarf Finished!

I am done with the Salt Flat Scarf and I am very pleased with the results. The rocky edging looks like I was picturing it and the white alpaca is perfect. Here is a picture of it being blocked.

Here are pictures of the finished scarf:

The next task is to write the pattern down so I can get it uploaded to Ravelry.

  1. Hi, i'mm trying to knit this scarf, but i don't understand your instructions. I don't understand how the Short Row pattern works. Is it, do the entire SRP whenever the knitting instructions say SRP or does the order of the SRP matter. Like, there are exactly 11 times SRP is used in the instructions, and also 11 rows for the SRP. Does that mean each time it mentions SRP in the main instructions, it refers to a different row in the SRP instructions? Also, i don't get how a 11 line pattern can be as long as the dangles on the picture, as 7 rows=an inch according to the instructions. Thanks. I've been starting over and over again, trying different ways, but i still don't get it

    1. Hello, I am sorry that it is confusing. It is just a coincidence that the SRP is done 11 times and that the SRP happens to have 11 rows. Whenever it states that you need to do an SRP in the instructions, you do all 11 rows before moving on. This means that your knitting will have a whole bunch of stitches poking out (like sock heels) before you can move on to the next stitch after the SRP. It is basically squeezing 11 rows over a short number of stitches into one row of the whole scarf. This is accomplished by turning the work before you have actually finished the row.

As I am looking at it again, I realize that I did not put the "turn" command after rows 3 and 4 and so have probably confused you to no end. The SRP should look like this:

      Short Row Pattern (SRP)
      Row 1: K14, turn
      Row 2: sl1p, P13, turn
      Row 3: sl1k, K12, k2tog, turn
      Row 4: sl1p, P12, p2tog, turn
Repeat rows 3 and 4 three times
      Row 11: sl1k, knit 13

I hope that this helps. I am glad you caught my error. I will update my PDF so no one else has as much trouble.

Short rows are always difficult so please let me know if you are still having trouble. I might be able to figure out how to video me doing a row and put it on Youtube.

      Good Luck!
      Virginia
